ALICJA PODGÓRSKA BIRKNER
Alicja Podgórska Birkner is a sculptor and designer working with stoneware, porcelain, terracotta, and marble.
She hand-builds her stoneware sculptures, embracing the tactile, earthy quality of clay as a guiding element in her work.
Her pieces shift between lively, organic forms and calm, reduced shapes, reflecting her close attention to how form grows, settles, and takes shape.
For her, sculpture is an invitation to slow down. She believes that following the contours of a piece—visually or through touch—can create a subtle, meditative experience.
With their primal simplicity, her sculptures encourage stillness and bring warmth and grounding to interior spaces.
Born in Poland, Alicja Podgórska Birkner studied sculpture and ceramic design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw.
Since 1989, she has lived and worked in Munich and the village of Jachenau in Germany, where nature continues to inform the quiet presence of her work.
Her works are on display in public and private collections around the world
