While avoiding mass reproduction processes, Canoa Lab research and develop some of the most ancient ceramic and goldsmithing techniques. Accordingly, their collections are based on press-moulding, coiling, wax-modelling and lost-wax casting.
Moreover, the main material used to build our pieces is local stoneware with grog. Canoa Lab have also developed the finishing and surface treatments, which are at the very core of their work. Therefore, they hope each ceramic piece is considered as a reflection of their respect for nature and raw materials, and deep devotion to craftsmanship.
Their latest series "Deriva" the concept of dérive (Internationale Situationniste) is expressed in a collection of one of a kind vases. These are the result of an exercise in wandering between various techniques of ceramic construction. With no original intention other than generate an experiece, with the purpose of exposing us to typical situations of a conscious maker-observer relationship with matter.
