DANIEL REYNOLDs

Having trained as a sculptor and painter at Kingston and Brighton Polytechnics, Daniel Reynolds went on to study 3 Dimensional Design at Middlesex, where he was taught by, among others, Emmanuel Cooper, head of the Ceramics Department at the time. From here he graduated with a BA Honours Degree in Furniture Design in 1985.

His major visual influences have, from an early age, been the work of the great modernists of the second half of the twentieth century. This includes artists like Elsworth Kelly, Alexander Calder, Jesús Soto, Jackson Pollock; and in England, Victor Pasmore and the Constructionist School, notably Kenneth and Mary Martin, Norman Dilworth and Adrian Heath.

The architecture of Oscar Niemeyer in Brazil and Carlos Villanueva in Venezuela were instrumental from childhood in shaping Daniel’s way of looking at the world around him. His early education took place in Caracas and other South American cities, where twentieth century modernism in architecture, sculpture and painting were both celebrated and greatly in evidence.

He has exhibited work at the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, at the Amparo Museum, Mexico City and at The New Art Centre, Roche Court in Wiltshire, where in 2018 he presented a site specific kinetic sculpture called  “Dreaming Dreams…”.  The piece comprises hand built geometric elements in stoneware ceramic and coloured glass, suspended from a  painted steel frame.

His sculptures have gained in reputation and have been commissioned for luxury hotels and private residences in New York, Chicago, Melbourne, Hong Kong, London, Copenhagen and the South of France. His process results in work of outstanding sensitivity and beauty, designed to bring a sense of joyful contemplation to its surroundings.
