KANICA

Laura Vargas Llanas is the creative force behind Kanica, a collection of bespoke and unique fibre pieces, influenced by the likes of Agnes Martin, Alexander Calder, Henri Matisse, the Bauhaus Movement and XXth century design and architecture. Each piece is individually handcrafted with natural and ethically sourced fibres, such as merino and alpaca wool, cotton and jute. The results are colourful and decorative works of art that embrace and revisit handcrafted embroidery and weaving techniques with a design aesthetics.

Laura currently lives and works in Madrid. She has a Bachelor’s degree in History of Art and a Master’s degree in Modern and Contemporary Art. She has previously worked at Christie’s auction house, Carpenters Workshop Gallery and Il Cigno GG Edizioni. Kanica is currently available from Wilo & Grove Gallery - Paris, The Socialite Family - Paris, Yume Sustainable Design - Copenhagen and Paul Smith Design - London.
