Lucy Giles (b.1975) is an abstract painter based in South London. Traditionally trained at Glasgow School of Art, with over 25 years’ painting practice, Giles has developed a strong visual signature, inspired by landscape and the everyday.
Giles works intuitively, translating sketchbook drawings made on location to capture fleeting moments into oil paintings that are both intimate and honest. Her bright, colourful works blend humour and play, appearing "naïve" yet revealing sophisticated depth and a quiet strength.
Creating both large and small scale oil paintings, Giles explores the rhythm of shape and colour with a sense of spontaneity. Her work embodies a physicality in the movement of the oils, blending great energy with precision. These paintings often take months or even years to evolve, reflecting a deep, gradual process.
Giles is an internationally recognised and widely collected painter, known for participating in both solo and group exhibitions, including the prestigious Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Her work is frequently selected by interior stylists and has been featured in prominent publications like Elle Decoration and Homes and Gardens.
