RUBY KINNEAR-JONES

Ruby Kinnear-Jones is a young designer who graduated from Chelsea College of Arts in 2019, studying Textiles Design. An instinctual materiality is evident in her ceramics, with visceral texture situating itself elegantly amongst the curves and crisp soaring edges of her pieces. Delicate maps of alchemical interactions are defined by her selective and specific layering of glazes. These are intersected by slick patent marks, projecting glances of light outwards with soft voids of matte texture providing relief. 

Furrowed surfaces stretch across the forms, drawing the eye across them and encouraging tactility. They are scaled to be forgiving and malleable in-hand, paying homage to our historical, and anthropologically vital, affinity for designing and utilising hand tools. Similar to the familiarity of a well-known possession, these varied excavated reliefs provide a narrative designed to be experienced and understood instinctively through touch.
