SOLENNE BELLOIR

Solenne Belloir is a ceramic artist from Paris. Her inspirations come primarily from nature and the urban environment.

When designing a piece, she likes to combine these two opposite concepts. Part of the sculpture must be anchored to the ground whilst the top of the sculpture must want to fly away. Solenne sees her creations as hybrid creatures, across between antique and futuristic. She draws her inspiration from man-made elements such as pipes that run along buildings like gigantic creepers surrounding the city, up to the chimneys that crown Parisians roofs.

The handles' natural aspect is essential to Solenne: flawlessly incorporated and rooted as if they had grown organically. Inspired by vegetal elements, such as stems and branches, they extend around her pieces, allowing her to build a sphere as a fragile armour that imposes a breath.

In terms of technique, Solenne works with different high-temperature clays, often with grog, alternating between white sandstone and black sandstone or by colouring the clay. She fluctuates between wheel throwing and modelling. It allows her to combine different types of shapes and to explore the endless possibilities of clay.
