THE CLAY ASSEMBLAGE

Guided by the idea of people gathering and sharing moments around a common table, The Clay Assemblage was founded in 2020 by Bilgin Bernard, a London-based graphic designer and art director.

Her pieces are made with the conviction that the things inhabiting our everyday lives should be objects of beauty, made with care and created to last. This results in both functional and sculptural objects which can be shared and passed down to subsequent generations. Her working process aims to refine shapes and celebrate the natural, inherent texture of the clay. Each small imperfection or irregularity marks the particularity of the piece and lends honesty to it’s beauty.

Her (Earth) In Isolation series focuses on the interior and exterior, both physically and mentally. Forced to be in a confined space during lockdown, detached from the world for most of the time, Bilgin started to explore the meaning of space and identity. Reflecting on her personal experience as child of migrants, her new body of work is an expression of the always recurring search of her own identity within the boundaried space of society.
